I LOOVE a good spa day. A day where I honor myself by doing exactly what I feel is necessary to feed my soul and and recharge to bring my best self forward in life.
Most of these days include binge-reading a thought-provoking book (currently obsessed with A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson), buying myself some beautiful flowers (pink lilies’ fragrance always hits the spot), a favorite workout (either a long run to zone out or a soul-searching yoga class from my absolute favorite teacher Reace), followed by a long long long bath soaking in Epsom Salt and Lavender essential oil. But something I’ve recently been turned on to is adding my own homemade face mask to the routine!
I love a great face mask but many store-bought masks out there contain a lot of questionable ingredients. What you put ON your body is just as important as what you put IN your body. Believe or not whatever we put on our skin is absorbed into our skin almost immediately (faster than food because it doesn’t have to go through the digestive tract to be absorbed into our bodies).
Enter: My Homemade Avocado Citrus Mask
Each ingredient is used with intention. Avocado is extremely rich in vitamin E and a plethora of fatty acids giving it the perfect quality to bring about glowing skin. The oats, chai seeds, and orange zest all act as exfoliators. Side note: When I went on week-long camping trips on a regular basis, I’d rub the peel from my breakfast orange all over my face for a morning face cleanse. My friends laughed at me at first, but soon enough they were all on board 🙂. The raw honey includes powerful antibacterial compounds that cleanse the skin (make sure to get raw for this benefit) and adds an extra moisturizing element. I also added a little apple cider vinegar which reduces inflammation from irritation and acne.
Try it out and your face will immediately enjoy the benefits of this amazing mask!
- ½ avocado, finely mashed
- 1 Tbl raw honey
- 1 Tbl oats
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- Add all ingredients to a small bowl and mash well together. Apply to clean skin rubbing really well to exfoliate then adding a final layer before letting it sit. Allow to sit on skin for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and finish with your favorite moisturizer.
